April

‘Bundanoon is Brigadoon’ A Hugh celebration of all things Scottish, held on a Saturday every April – 20,000 people descend on Bundanoon for this unique annual highland gathering. Street parade of 20 or more clan societies marching onto the oval where many traditional highland games and stalls are held culminating with the massed bands and lone piper. ‘A must see’!

Burrawang Annual Village Markets Lots of stalls, food and music set in the main street of this lovely historic village. Very popular.

Come to the Highlands to see the changing colours of the deciduous, cool climate trees that flourish across the Highlands. From gold, burgundy, orange, yellow, red and brown the sights and sounds of the autumn leaves are a beautiful experience.

June

Irish Day Festival at Sutton Forest on June Long Weekend, each year (7 mins. drive). There is music, singing and dancing, as well as Irish food and fine dark ale. Activities take place in and around A Little Piece of Scotland and the Sutton Forest Inn, famous for its Guinness and Kilkerry ales on tap. Robbie Burns Celebration held at the Bundanoon Country Hotel on the last weekend of June. Dine on country fair, wines, see the noble Haggis ceremonially piped in. Learn about his life through music, poetry and song. Phone +61 2 4883 6005.

The Sled Dog Shield Race is held in the Wingello State Forest over the last weekend in June, with day races and the ‘Dash in the Dark’ race. All proceeds go towards the Guide Dog Assoc. The race site will be signposted from the Hume Highway turn off. Phone 4677 2177.

Christmas in July Have your own celebration at Bundanoon Cottage with the open fire and country kitchen to prepare your feast – we can supply the Christmas Decorations! Or celebrate in one of the many venues in Bundanoon including Tree Tops GuestHouse and Bundanoon Hotel.

Tulip Time at Bowral, (30 mins. drive), starting from the last weekend of September and running until the end of the October Long Weekend. Also a lovely display at Leighton Gardens in the main street of Moss Vale (10 mins. drive).

October

Bundanoon Garden Ramble (local open gardens) and Scarecrow Carnival Held on the last Sunday of October each year. Catch the free bus at the Soldiers Memorial Hall, which will take you to all the open gardens in Bundanoon. Look out for the fabulous scarecrows dressed up in their best, in front yards, on roofs and in the streets, there just to delight passers-by. Also on the day are the Country Garden Markets at the Hall and the Bundanoon Quilt and Textile Exhibition in the Bundanoon Country Hotel. Phone Tourism Southern Highlands, Mittagong for the date.

Vaude Highland Fling Cycle Race. Attracting over 1,000 riders the MTB marathon offers a scenic and challenging route through forests, farmland and villages in and around Bundanoon. The main race takes place on Sunday. www.wildhorizons.com.au
